After leading in FP1 and FP2, Valtteri's car needs a gearbox change.
Valtteri Bottas will receive a 5 place grid penalty for changing the gearbox. Bottas was the fastest man in FP1 and FP2, but Mercedes found that they will need to change his gearbox.
Last week in Austria, the same thing happened to Lewis Hamilton who also had to do an unscheduled gearbox change.
According to the rules, the gearbox must be used in 6 consecutive races. If the gearbox is changed before time, the driver receives a 5 place grid penalty.
As a huge fan of F1, it's really hard and annoying to see drivers receiving these penalties because the engine part or a gearbox did not last the required number of races. If someone should be punished it should be the team, give the team a fine or something, take away constructor point each time they go over the limit etc. As it is, the drivers are suffering because the car parts are not engineerd to last the required number of races, and that's not good.
