Hamilton flexes his speed muscles and takes the pole with a .5 sec advantage over the second best.

Lewis Hamilton will start his home race from the pole position after putting in an amazing lap which was .5 second faster than the second best.

In the first row, alongside Hamilton, will be Kimi Räikkönen who beat his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the second place on the starting grid. I really want to see if Kimi can take the fight to Hamilton and if Seb perhaps manages a better start than both of them? It will be an exciting race for sure.

Many drivers started the Q1 round with intermediate tyres because it was raining. It was very interesting to see who will manage the best time in the slippery conditions. Notable performances were by Hulkenberg who does really well in wet weather, he managed to put his Renault between two Red Bulls at the top of timesheets. Ricciardo stopped with a turbo issue a minute later, while Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Bottas exchanged blows at the top. As the track begin to dry, Alonso came out on slicks and put in a lap that was the fastest in Q1, ending the session at the very top. Needles to say, the crowd greeted this with many cheers and an applause.

Out in Q1: Stroll, Magnussen, Wehrlein, Ericsson and Ricciardo

The Q2 saw the track rapidly drying so everyone was out of slick tyres. Bottas chose the Soft compound in contrast to everyone else who used Super Soft, so they can choose their tyres tomorrow on the start. Bottas has a 5 place grid penalty for tomorrow, due to a gearbox change.

Hulk managed to do a very fast lap in the middle of the session, putting Renault on the top. However, conditions on the track were improving and everyone knew the last laps will be the fastest. Ferrari impressed with 30 seconds to go with both cars on the top. Couple of moments later Mercedes cars took over the throne being a second ahead, as the track improving every second. Stoffel Vandoorne managed to put in some great laps and went through to Q3, also beating Fernando Alonso for the first time.

Out in Q2: Palmer, Kvyat, Alonso, Sainz and Massa

In Q3 session everyone was eager to get out as soon as possible and get in some good laps. At the start of the session, Hamilton was the fastest with Vettel splitting the Mercedes, and Kimi trailing behind Bottas. As the session closed, Hamilton put in a lap that was 4 tenths faster then the second best. Kimi and Seb took second and third, while Bottas was fourth.
